Why you'd want to live in Ballard (Northwest Seattle)
Just over a century ago, the city of Ballard began growing and thriving just off Lake Washington Ship Canal. It was home to many people of Scandinavian descent whose trades were fishing, working in local mills and boat building. Fast forward to now, and Ballard has become one the hippest and most respected neighborhoods and areas in all of Seattle. Within Ballard you’ll quickly discover some of the trendiest bars (see Ocho and Volterra) must-eat restaurants, and Ballard’s most-visited attraction – Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. You’ll find a wide range of art spaces, dive bars, and new condos all throughout Ballard. If you hike a bit north, you’ll discover peaceful family neighborhoods. Head west and you’ll hit the beach and Golden Gardens Park where you can light up bonfires or even go kite surfing. And don’t forget to take advantage of Ballard Farmer’s Market every Sunday (rain or shine!) where you can purchase from local artists selling original art, jewelry, furniture and of course – home grown goods. Ballard really does have something for everyone!
