3 Things to Know About a Pre-Sale Home Remodel

Today, let’s talk about preparing your home to list on the market—specifically, whether or not it’s a good idea to remodel before you sell.

When it comes to selling your home for the most money possible,
complete remodels often aren’t the right way to go, and there are three reasons why:

1. It’s very rare that you can do a major remodel and still recoup all the money you put into the project. Unless you love spending money that you don’t get back, just skip it.

2. Buyers don’t always love the same home features that you do. Even if you up the price of the home to account for the features you put in, there’s no guarantee that buyers will see the value in your additions/upgrades that you do.

3. Construction deadlines and costs are unpredictable. The kitchen remodel that you think is going to cost you about $60,000 could end up costing you one-and-a-half times as much and take twice as long as you thought. You could miss the entire market by waiting for your projects to be finished.

All in all, you don’t need to dump countless dollars into a complete overhaul of your home. If you have any questions about ways to prepare your home for the market that won’t suck the money out of your wallet, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’d be happy to help.
